Meeting of landowners in Waterloo Creek Watershed scheduled for March 14

The Bee/Duck Creek Watershed Committee, Allamakee County and Root River (Houston County) Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) are holding a watershed-wide landowner meeting in Spring Grove, MN Thursday, March 14. The meeting will be held at the Fest Building in Spring Grove, MN from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Refreshments will be provided.

Free services offered by area dental teams during "Have A Heart" Day have big community impact

Nearly 100 patients received the benefit of free dental care as the 23rd Annual "Have a Heart" Day was hosted by area dental care providers Saturday, February 9. The event provided an opportunity for kids four to 18 years of age, who have not recently seen a dentist for whatever reason, to receive free dental care.

Sarah Bieber will be featured speaker Thursday for Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast at St. John's

The Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast are underway and all women in the area are invited to attend these events taking place during the Lenten season. The Lenten breakfast events will begin at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, followed at 7 a.m. with a program.
The Thursday, February 28 Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast will be held in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. The program entitled “Summoning Christians to Worship: The Sounding Bell” will be presented by Sarah Bieber, a 2012 graduate of Luther College and the daughter of Jim and Sue Bieber of Waukon.

The first Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon Thursday, February 21. All women in the area are invited to attend these events taking place during the Lenten season.
The Lenten breakfast events will begin at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, followed at 7 a.m. with a program. Fr. Joseph Schneider, Pastor of St. Patrick Church, will present the February 21 program entitled "From Death to Life."

Anderson's first-place Iowa Junior Duck Stamp entry is on display at Osborne Center

The 2012 Iowa Junior Duck Stamp winners are on exhibit at the Osborne Nature Center near Elkader until February 23. On display will be 36 pieces of artwork of waterfowl created by students throughout Iowa that were awarded first, second and third places, as well as thumbnails of the honorable mention winners. Among those top entries on display will be the one pictured above, the first-place entry submitted for the contest by 2012 Waukon High School graduate Brianne Anderson of Lansing before she graduated.

Treasurer Lori Hesse awarded Certified Treasurer Status

Several years ago, the Iowa State County Treasurers Association confirmed a renewed commitment to their constituents by developing the Certified Treasurers Program. A committee of Iowa County Treasurers, with the assistance of personnel from the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach office, developed the program. Iowa County Treasurers who enroll in the education program must complete 30 credit hours, 18 of which must be in the areas of human resources, the Code of Iowa, investments, budgets, leadership and communication skills.

Mosaic celebrating 100 years; Local event scheduled for February 18

Beginning in February, Mosaic will celebrate a milestone anniversary of 100 years. Their centennial celebration, titled "A Century of Service, A Legacy of Love," will kick-off with an organization-wide celebration with staff and individuals they serve in 38 locations across 10 states.
Mosaic was formed July 1, 2003 by the consolidation of two Nebraska-born Lutheran ministries dedicated to the needs of people with disabilities. Bethphage began in 1913 in Axtell, NE and Martin Luther Homes began in 1925 in Sterling, NE.
