Kee football team will open Eight-Player State Play-Offs at Janesville

The Kee football team hosted Midland of Wyoming in the final Eight-Player District 4 match-up of the season for both teams, but with so much more riding on the game’s final outcome than just a win or loss. Both teams held equal records of 3-3 in district play heading into the contest, with the winner earning the district’s fourth-place and final Eight-Player State Play-Off berth.
Nearly as even as the two team’s district records were their offensive yardage totals in the ballgame, each holding a slight edge in their respective specialties, with Kee holding a slight offensive edge, 455-406, and that edge further translating on to the final scoreboard with a 64-44 Hawk victory.
Finishing the regular season with a 6-3 overall record on the season, 4-3 in district play, the Hawks wrapped up Eight-Player District 4’s fourth and final qualification spot for the Eight-Player State Play-Offs. That play-off qualification will take Kee’s gridiron gang to Janesville this Wednesday, October 29 for a first-round contest that begins at 7 p.m. The Wildcats are District 3’s championship team this season, posting an undefeated record of 9-0 during the regular season and outscoring their opponents by a points per game average of 57-11.5.
The Hawks and Wildcats share three common opponents from this season, each team defeating Central City, Rockford and Riceville throughout the course of their respective 2014 campaigns. The Hawks beat Central City by a score of 52-0, Riceville by a 40-34 result, and Rockford by a 42-14 final count, while Janesville posted wins of 62-0 over Central City, 55-14 over Riceville, and 57-8 over Rockford. Wednesday’s winner will then advance on to the Eight-Player second round Monday, November 3, also beginning at 7 p.m., at a site and against an opponent to be determined following completion of Wednesday’s opening round of play-off games.
