Waukon boys basketball team returns six letterwinners for 2014-2015 season

The 2014-2015 Waukon boys basketball team returns six varsity letterwinners from a 9-13 season last winter. Head coach Jed Hemann will field a nearly equal team balance of six seniors and eight juniors this season that will provide some contributions beyond just those returning varsity veterans.

“This year, our strength should be our depth and the balance we have on our team,” Coach Hemann said. “We have several guys who will compete for playing time and several guys that are capable scorers. We also have several guys put in a lot of time in the gym making themselves better athletes and basketball players going into this season. Some have put themselves in a great position to see significant playing time.”

The six varsity veterans include four seniors headlined by multi-year varsity contributor and Second Team All-Conference selection Jake Ronan and also including Justyn Herman, Landon Sivesind and Brock Waters. The junior pair of Peyton Hesse and Wyatt Wille also made considerable contribution to the varsity Tribe as sophomores last season.

“These guys all played big roles on our team last season, and they will be expected to set the example of how to practice and prepare to win,” Coach Hemann said. “We’ve had several players make some good strides during the off-season. It will be fun to see who will step up once we get the season started.”

Ronan returns with the most assists from last season’s squad, and also finished as the second-leading scorer and defender. Herman brings back the second most three-point baskets made from last season, with Waters being the team’s second-leading rebounder.

All those runner-up finishes on last year’s squad came behind one of the most productive players to ever take to the court for the basketball Indians. Parker Hesse not only led the team in pretty much every statistical category last season, but he also finished at the top or near the top of many of those same categories after wrapping up a four-year varsity career.
