Waukon girls basketball team wins “two-and-a-half” of three games this past week

The Waukon girls basketball team came within one half (two quarters) of an undefeated week, winning two-and-a-half of its three games this past week to double its win total for the season. The Indians opened the week with back-to-back victories, posting a 54-40 non-conference road victory at North Fayette Valley Monday, January 12 before defeating Oelwein at home, 63-53, Tuesday, January 13. The basketball ladies then fell at Class 4A sixth-rated and undefeated Waverly-Shell Rock Friday, January 16 by a 46-30 final result, but not before serving notice to the high-powered Go-Hawks by playing to a 22-21 halftime lead.
Now holding a 4-8 overall record, 2-5 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Indians were next scheduled to host Charles City Tuesday, January 20 before playing at Decorah Friday, January 23. The Tribe will then enter its busiest week of the season with four games this next week, hosting Spring Grove, MN Monday, January 26 and playing at New Hampton Tuesday, January 27 before hosting both MFL/MarMac and Class 3A eighth-rated Crestwood on back-to-back nights, Thursday, January 29 and Friday, January 30.
