Waukon basketball girls avenge loss to Decorah, just miss same feat against Charles City

The Waukon girls basketball team split a pair of Northeast Iowa Conference games this week, showing improvement by avenging one sizable early-season loss and nearly pulling off that feat twice. The Indians came up just shy of paying back an earlier 15-point loss to Charles City, but fell short, 47-42, in a home battle with the Comets Tuesday, January 20. The Tribe did, however, avenge an initial 33-point loss to Decorah by pulling out a 59-56 road win over the host Vikings Friday, January 23.
Now holding a 5-9 overall record, 3-6 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Indians were next scheduled for their busiest week of the season with four games this week, hosting Spring Grove, MN Monday, January 26 and playing at New Hampton Tuesday, January 27 before hosting both MFL/MarMac and Class 3A eighth-rated Crestwood on back-to-back nights, Thursday, January 29 and Friday, January 30. The Tribe will then play at Caledonia, MN Monday, February 2 before traveling to Oelwein Friday, February 6 and then wrapping up their regular season schedule at home against Prairie du Chien, WI Tuesday, February 10.
The Indians will then open postseason tournament play Saturday, February 14 at Dyersville Beckman, beginning at 7 p.m., with the winner of that game playing the winner of a Crestwood vs. Oelwein match-up Wednesday, February 18 at Cresco. Further details of the Indians’ postseason trail will be published in next week’s edition of The Standard.
