Meyer will wrap up Kee track career among Class 1A shot put elite at State Meet

Kee girls track senior Val Meyer powers out this shot put effort for a third-place finish in the event at the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet hosted by Edgewood-Colesburg Thursday, May 14 and qualification for the Class 1A State Meet. Meyer launched the shot 35’11.75” not only for State Meet qualification but also for a new school record that surpassed the previous mark of 35’8” set by 2013 Kee graduate Samantha Galema during her senior track season. The Kee girls track team competed in its final week together this past week, hosting its only home meet of the 2015 season before trying to extend its season as much as possible. The Hawks won that home invitational Monday, May 11, and then had their season brought to a close Thursday, May 14 for all but one team member at their Class 1A State Qualifying Meet at Edgewood-Colesburg, as senior Val Meyer earned qualification for this year’s Class 1A shot put field of the Iowa High School State Track Meet.
Meyer will now compete among Class 1A’s shot put elite this Thursday, May 21 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
