The win column in the Northeast Iowa Conference (NEIC) escaped the Waukon baseball team yet again this past week, as the Tribe diamond dwellers sandwiched another mercy-rule win out of the NEIC in between a pair of league losses at home. Following postponement of the Tribe’s Monday, June 16 game at Oelwein to Monday, June 29, the baseball Indians fell at home to New Hampton, 12-3, Wednesday, June 17 and to Crestwood, 16-4, Friday, June 19. The Indians’ lone victory of the week came by an 11-1 count in six innings at Postville Thursday, June 18.
Falling to a 7-8 overall record on the season, 0-7 in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Indians were scheduled to play at Waverly-Shell Rock Monday, June 22 before hosting Charles City Friday, June 26 and the annual Jeff Houg Tournament Saturday, June 27, details of which appear elsewhere on these sports pages. The baseball Tribe will then make up that June 16 postponement at Oelwein Monday, June 29 before hosting Decorah in a doubleheader Tuesday, June 30, playing at North Fayette Valley Wednesday, July 1 and hosting Oelwein in a doubleheader Friday, July 3.
