The Waukon football survived a dormant second half to outlast the visiting Sailors of Waterloo Columbus for a 30-27 Homecoming victory Friday, October 2. The Indians had rolled up 22 points in a productive second quarter to bolt to a 30-12 halftime advantage, but then silent on the offensive side of the ball for the entire second half, holding off a late Columbus charge during that same timeframe and surviving a potential game-tying field goal that missed its mark in the game’s final 1:20. The Homecoming victory improves the Indians to a 5-1 overall record that bettered to a 2-1 mark in Class 2A District 3 play. The Tribe will head to New Hampton this Friday, October 9 to take on a Chickasaw team yet undefeated against District 3 opponents but sporting a 4-2 overall season record after a 40-13 victory at Oelwein this past Friday, October 2.
