Howe, Frieden advance from Class 2A Sectional Tournament


Runner-up finishes advance them to Districts ... Waukon wrestling 113-pound senior Miles Howe and 182-pound senior Joe Frieden each wrestled their way to runner-up finishes at the Class 2A Sectional Tournament at Decorah Saturday, February 6. Both received first-round byes before winning their semifinal matches - Howe with a 9-0 major decision over North Fayette Valley freshman Gunner Rodgers (pictured top) and Frieden winning a 3-1 decision over Decorah sophomore Andy Lillegraven (pictured bottom). They then both fell in their championship bouts to place second, a high enough finish to earn advancement to this Saturday’s District Tournament being hosted by Independence High School. Fuhrman comes up just shy of District qualification as Indians place sixth

The 2015-2016 Waukon wrestling season came to a close for all but two seniors at the Class 2A Sectional Tournament hosted by Decorah High School Saturday, February 6. Seniors Miles Howe, at 113 pounds, and Joe Frieden, at 182 pounds, each wrestled to runner-up finishes at their respective weights to continue their careers with advancement to this Saturday’s Class 2A District Tournament at Independence, beginning at 12 noon. Those runner-up finishes paced the Indians to 102 team points and their sixth-place team finish.
