Lawrence "Joe" Kubitz

June 23, 2016, we lost but Heaven gained a caring, gentle man. After a short illness, Lawrence “Joe” Kubitz, born to Richard and Teresa (Mitchell) Kubitz, passed away at his aunt’s home in New Albin.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin. Father John Moser will officiate. Following the mass, military honors will be rendered outside the church by the Kenneth Casey VFW Post 5603 of New Albin.

A visitation will be held from 4-7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 29 at the New Albin Community Center. There will also be visitation from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Joe spent four years serving our country in the United States Marines with two and a half years as Crew Chief of a C H 46 helicopter. Joe met his future wife while living in Florida.

July 16, 1987, he married Sandra “Sandy” Caldwell and she preceded him in death in August of 2008. After his time in the service, Joe returned to New Albin to help on the family farm. He also had spent the last 21 years driving fork lift for Konkel Forest Products in New Albin. Joe spent his spare time grilling, camping, quilting and spending time with family.

Survivors include his sons, Larry Joe “JJ” (fiancee’ Samantha Bates) of New Albin and Jordan Bishofsky of La Crosse, WI; his daughters, Jenny, Rosie and Frankie; his brother, Leon “Mike” (Sarah) Kubitz of Lansing; his sisters, Terrie (Randy) Roth of Coldwater, MI and Dawn (Mark) Tewes of Caledonia, MN; a brother-in-law, Randy Stubbie; a sister-in-law, Wendy Kubitz; two grandchildren, Josie Lee Kubitz and Izaha Jeffrey Kubitz; and many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to his wife, Joe was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Debra “Debbie” Stubbie; one brother, Lyndon Kubitz; and one niece.
