Open time slots remain to be filled for local level of Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon June 30-July 3

Courthouse lawn will be one of 99 county courthouse locations for the event following Governor's proclamation

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad signed a proclamation April 26 of this year encouraging all Iowans to join in the Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon proposed to take place in front of all county courthouses within the state of Iowa beginning Thursday, June 30 at 8 a.m. and ending Sunday, July 3 at approximately 4 p.m.

On the local level, Kristi Hager and Mary Keatley are organizing the event for Allamakee County, inviting families, groups or individuals to volunteer to read in 15-minute increments at any time during the around-the-clock, four-day event that will be taking place at the northeast corner of the Allamakee County Courthouse property along Allamakee Street in Waukon. Volunteer readers do not need to bring or prepare anything, as a Bible, a podium and a canopy tent will be provided.

More information about the event can be found online at www.kingdombuilderenterprises.com under the "Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon" link.

Anyone interested in participating in this event may sign up to read by simply going online prior to the event at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/4090D4AABAC23A6FD0-allamakee to select a 15-minute time slot between Thursday, June 30  and Sunday, July 3. In addition to having an adult read for a designated time, organizers offer the following suggestions for those wishing to read or take part in the event:

• Readers can share their time by allowing walk-ups to read a few scriptures.
• Youth or adult groups take 15-minute slots and have several read.
• Parents read a few words to their young children and let the children repeat them back.
• Husbands and wives read together alternating scriptures or splitting the time.
