Fields of Faith event set for October 10 at Waukon High School

Students from Waukon High School will join thousands of other youth on athletic fields across the nation Wednesday, October 10 to share their Christian faith with fellow students and the general public during the 15th annual national Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA) Fields of Faith event. This interdenominational outreach event will be held at more than 500 locations throughout the nation.

The local event is now in its seventh year and will start at 7 p.m. at the Waukon High School football field that Wednesday evening. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. In the case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Waukon High School gymnasium.

This year’s featured student speakers will include Waukon High School seniors Maddie Ahlstrom, Emily Kolsrud and Megan O’Neill, who will each share their personal testimonies of faith. In addition to those students, a pair of impact speakers, Isaac Fruechte and Cedric James, will also be featured this year with their message of faith and life.

Isaac Fruechte was a multiple-sport standout at Caledonia High School in Minnesota. He started his collegiate football career at Rochester Community and Technical College, and then continued that career at the University of Minnesota. From there, he went on to a brief NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions before now serving as the wide receiver coach for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Eagles football team.

Cedric James is a former Texas Christian University (TCU) student-athlete, where he studied Business Marketing in the Neeley School of Business. In 2001, he left TCU to pursue an opportunity in the National Football League (NFL) for six years. After retirement, James returned to TCU in 2011 to complete his undergraduate degree in Business and work for the university. Currently, he is pursuing his master’s degree in Educational Leadership, holds the title of Associate Director of the TCU Idea Factory, and is also a proud family man. Because of his passion for ministry, entrepreneurship and providing service in the community, James says he has learned to step out of his comfort zone and share his compelling story of perseverance.

FCA’s Fields of Faith is structured as a student-to-student ministry. Peers invite their own classmates and teammates to meet on their school’s athletic field to hear fellow students share their testimonies, challenge them to read the Bible and to come to faith in Jesus Christ.
