The Waukon bowling program continues to modestly grow, as head coach Jerry Keenan looks forward to the start of his third season of the newest athletic activity at Waukon High School. The 2018-2019 Waukon bowling team will feature its largest boys’ squad ever with 19 competitors, while the girls squad grew just a bit from last season and now has eight young ladies taking part.

Each team returns five letterwinners from last season’s squad. The senior trio of Emma Roe, Megan O’Neill and Allison Sletten will be joined by the sophomore pair of Madi Palmer and Taylor Peterson as returning veterans from a girls season that proved to be competitive in compiling just a 1-8 season record last winter. The Indian boys will have just one senior on this season’s entire roster, Jorden Orr, who will be joined by the junior foursome of Matt Rozzell, Nathan Liddiard, Bren Regan and Clayton Wacker in returning with veteran experience from the bowling Tribe’s first winning campaign, 5-4, last season.

“This group has been a great help,” Coach Keenan said of his returning experience. “They help the newer bowlers and also help keep the practices fun.”

Coach Keenan also knows that the success of his own squad is not solely credited to his bowlers and what he is able to teach them. “Like last season, Ron and the staff at Arrowhead Lanes have been extremely helpful,” Coach Keenan noted. “They are extremely accommodating and fun to work with. We are fortunate to have the bowling alley in town and it is exciting to see the program grow.”

The Indians were slated to get their first taste of competition for this 2018-2019 season Tuesday, November 20 at home against Waverly-Shell Rock. The bowling Tribe will then also host Tripoli November 30 before hitting the road for the first time December 7 at North Iowa.
