Lansing City Council hears about local efforts regarding this summer’s Hwy. 82 project, receives committee assignments

The Lansing City Council meeting was held Monday, February 4. Discussion centered around the adoption of the consent agenda, welcoming a new council member, a Main Street Lansing report, raising jetter repair costs and assigning committees.
Mayor Mike Brennan opened the meeting welcoming the newest member of the council, Kyle Walleser.

Main Street Lansing Executive Director Andy Kelleher was at the meeting presenting the Main Street Matters report. He explained that the Main Street Madness punch card promotion recorded $220,100 in local holiday spending late last year.

Kelleher also discussed the Wisconsin Highway 82 (the dike road connecting Iowa and Wisconsin via the Black Hawk Bridge) Summer 2019 Construction Project scheduled to take place July 2019 through September 2019. The majority of that time will involve one-lane traffic on that roadway, but Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) officials are suggesting an estimate of ten days of full closure of the road. Kelleher explained to the council that while talking on the phone with officials involved with the project he asked that they not fully close the road during the Lansing Fish Days celebration in early August. Main Street Matters is also in the beginning stages of trying to coordinate river shuttles and work-arounds during that construction time.

A motion was made and seconded to slightly raise the amount of money being spent on repairs to the City’s jetter, not to exceed $3,000.

Mayor Brennan assigned council members to their respective committees. On the Streets, Alleys and Sidewalks Committee will be Mike Manning and Bruce Revoir; Water, Sewer and Street Lights will be Kyle Walleser and Justin Shepard; Grounds, Buildings, Parks and Marina will be Deb Volker and Mike Manning; Swimming Pool and Summer Recreation was assigned to Bruce Revoir and Kyle Walleser; Budget, Planning and Development will be Bruce Revoir and Justin Shepard; the Public Safety and Ordinance Committee will be Mike Manning and Deb Volker; the Administration Committee is Kyle Walleser and Justin Shepard; and the Personnel Committee was assigned to all council members.
