Kee baseball team splits with Class 2A seventh-rated Cascade, suffers narrow twinbill sweep at South Winneshiek in battle of UIC unbeatens

The Kee baseball team played just a pair of doubleheaders this past week, but that limited schedule of just two dates, both on the road, carried some heavy weight as to where the baseball Hawks currently stand just beyond the midway point of their season. Having moved into the Class 1A top-10 of the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings, the Kee baseball boys first traveled to Class 2A seventh-rated Cascade Tuesday, June 11 and earned a hard-fought split with the host Cougars, winning game one by a 7-5 count before falling in the nightcap, 6-3. The Hawks then traveled to previously Class 1A top-10 ranked South Winneshiek Thursday, June 13 for a battle between Upper Iowa Conference unbeatens, but came up just a run short in each game of the league twinbill by scores of 5-4 and 1-0.

Now holding a 12-5 season record that includes a 4-2 mark in Upper Iowa Conference play, the Hawks were next scheduled to host North Fayette Valley Monday, June 17 before playing Clarke of Osceola in a varsity doubleheader at Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo - home of the Waterloo Bucks - in a rare 10 a.m. start Wednesday, June 19 and then in the Jeff Houg Tournament hosted by Waukon Saturday, June 22, beginning with a 12:30 p.m. match-up with South Winneshiek as of press time Tuesday. Kee will then play an Upper Iowa Conference doubleheader at Postville Monday, June 24 before playing at New Hampton Wednesday, June 26 and then hosting Crestwood in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday, June 27.
