LeRoy McCabe

LeRoy A. McCabe, 95, of Waukon died Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 14 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Mark Osterhaus officiating. Burial with military honors was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

LeRoy Anton McCabe was born August 18, 1924 in Waukon, the son of Thomas and Anna (Sweeney) McCabe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon and in 1942 graduated from Waukon High School.

From 1945-1947, LeRoy served in the U.S. Army Air Force and was stationed in Baltimore, MD as a weatherman. He then returned home to Waukon and October 21, 1947, LeRoy married Marcella Marie Wagner at Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in rural Lansing. They raised their family and farmed on the south end of Waukon. In the 1960s, LeRoy started and managed the trailer court next to the Waukon park for many decades.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. LeRoy also belonged to the Waukon Golf and Country Club, where he was the greenskeeper from 1961-1977. His two favorite activities were golfing and playing euchre.

LeRoy is survived by five children including his son, William “Bill” (Janice) McCabe of Houston, TX, and their children: Patrick (Mary) McCabe and sons Liam, Drew and John; Christopher (Beth) McCabe and children Lydia and Miles; Eryck (Liz) Kratville; and Jeniffer (John) May and son Camden; his daughter, Jean McCabe of Waukon, and her children: Hally (Justin) Neubauer and children Jase Tofte and Jayven Neubauer; and Marcy (Eric) Sgambati; his daughter, Joann (Chris Hirayama) McCabe of Hilo, HI; his daughter, Jule McCabe of Decorah, and her daughter Erin (Mario) Garzon and children Diego and Lola; his son, Daniel (Renee) McCabe of Augusta, GA, and children: Sean and Anna McCabe; and a daughter-in-law, Nancy McCabe of Denver, CO, and daughter Tonya Beauprez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marcella, in 2013; a son, Lyle; a son-in-law, Dale McCormick; a daughter-in-law, Mary McCabe; a grandson, Kyle McCormick; two sisters, Jeanette White and Frances (Regis) Foley; and two brothers, James and Leo (Teresa) McCabe.

Casketbearers were Patrick McCabe, Christopher McCabe, Jase Tofte, Justin Neubauer, Sean McCabe and Robert Campbell. Honorary casketbearers were Marcy Sgambati, Hally Neubauer, Anna McCabe and Erin Garzon.
