Iowa Nitrogen Initiative to host summer field days

On-farm nitrogen rate trial research and nutrient management will be featured at four field days across Iowa in August and September as part of the Iowa Nitrogen Initiative’s summer 2023 Field Day Series.

The INI, which is a partnership between Iowa State University, agricultural service providers and Iowa farmers, leverages the latest advances in precision agriculture and cropping systems modeling to improve nitrogen fertilizer recommendations for Iowa farmers. The project is farmer-focused and provides farmers with information that they can use to improve productivity, profitability and environmental performance on Iowa farms.

Attendees of the field days can look forward to presentations from INI project directors about project goals and optimizing nitrogen management, discussion with farmer participants about their experiences with the trials, as well as an introduction to the technologies used and drone footage of the research areas. Each field day will also feature topics in nutrient management of local interest, chosen by the host.

INI field days offer opportunities to interact with the researchers and farmers while learning more about the importance of the project and how to become a farmer participant.

All field days begin at 10 a.m. and are hosted by farmer participants throughout the state:
• Tuesday, Aug. 15, hosted by Tim Burrack – 8124 80th St., Arlington
• Wednesday, Aug. 16, hosted by Kelly Nieuwenhuis – 5910 440th St., Primghar
• Wednesday, Aug. 23, hosted by Dave Schwartz – 1778 Highway 44, Guthrie Center
• Wednesday, Sept. 6 hosted by Iowa State University – Kluver ISU Research Farm, 1.5 miles west on 210th St. from 500th St./Y Ave., Boone County

Lunch will be provided by Iowa Corn. Additional support provided by Iowa Soybean Association, Iowa Agriculture Water Alliance and Verdesian Life Sciences. Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) credit available.

All INI Field Days are free and open to the public. If you plan to attend, an RSVP is greatly appreciated. You can RSVP at https://form.jotform.com/231715874912057.
