Letter to the Editor: Submitted by Robin Oden

To the Editor:

Deuteronomy is a book in the Old Testament that was given to Moses shortly before he died. These were his last words of exhortation, urgently reminding and warning the children of Israel as they were about to enter the Promised Land of the Lord’s faithfulness (to His covenantal promises) and to challenge the people to remain faithful and obedient to their covenant with God.

Moses reminds God’s people that to obey God’s statutes and ways (out of love and reverential fear of Him) would bring blessing, life, health and prosperity, and that to disobey would bring the opposite - curses, death and destruction. In Deuteronomy 30:19 God expresses His desire for His people, “I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursings; therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live.” Chapter 28 of Deuteronomy gives a detailed list of the blessings of obedience and the curses of disobedience.

Well, as the children of Israel moved into the Promised Land and settled in, they began to disobey God by observing the pagan practices of worship of the nations around them. As they compromised, they began to “cast God’s words behind them.” God had specifically warned His people in Deuteronomy 12:31 to not burn their sons and daughters in the fire to other gods/demons as the other nations did. God warned this would defile and pollute the land; the idea of it had not even entered His heart!

Eventually the kings and the people started doing that very abomination of offering their children upon the altars of Baal and Molech by sacrificing them as burnt offerings, hoping for the blessing of the gods, making their lives better! This most abominable sin was the final straw. As a result, both Israel in the north and then Judah in the south were overtaken and taken captive to other lands just as God had promised would happen.

My point in this letter. America has been the most blessed nation in all of history because we were founded on biblical values. On January 22, 1973, the Roe vs. Wade case legalized the slaughter of the innocent - the passing through the fire - of precious, unborn children. In Deuteronomy 28:43 it says that one of the curses of disobeying God’s law (in this case abortion) is that, “the alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. He shall be the head and you shall be the tail.”

The estimated number of abortions thus far (after now 50 years) is upwards of 60 million. The number of illegal aliens now in our country is in the multi-millions and rising every day. The Bible says that the blood (DNA) of the murdered innocents cries out from the ground. Could this invasion be beyond a political issue to a spiritual law? Could there be a connection between the babies that should’ve been born (some now being 50 years old) and their being replaced by invading aliens coming over our borders which no longer seem to exist?

Let us hope and pray that the Dobbs vs. Jackson case decision (June 24, 2022) of overturning Roe vs. Wade at the national level is the beginning of the dismantling of this evil altar in our nation. America needs to repent of this barbaric atrocity and end abortion completely, once and for all! Like the Bible instructs, we need to turn (repent) and return to the Lord and His ways, and He will bless.

Lastly, Jesus loves the little children, for He says “children are a gift from the Lord; the fruit of the womb is His reward,” (Psalm 127). He gives the sternest of warnings to anyone who would prevent a child from coming to Him or being a stumbling block between Him and them. He said it would be better for that person if a millstone were draped about his neck and he be cast into the sea than to face the punishment he will receive.

Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach (rebuke) to any people.” The more pagan (ungodly) the culture, the less safe it is for the children.
