Kee boys basketball 2023-2024 campaign will go down in history as program’s best ever - so far, as all but two players can return

The 2023-2024 Kee boys basketball season was undeniably the best in program history, as this winter’s Hawks flew higher and farther than ever seen before. The end result was a best-ever 22-3 season record that took the Kee boys basketball program to the brink of its first-ever State Tournament berth, with a number of other record-breaking and historic achievements taking place along the way (see shaded box accompanying this article on this same page), including being ranked for the first time in program history, as they climbed as high as Class 1A’s eighth-ranked squad and stayed within Class 1A’s top-10 for the remainder of the season.

Within that program-best season record that surpassed previous high marks of an 18-3 campaign during the 1978-1979 season and a 17-2 result during the winter of 1981-1982 was another program-best record of 15-1 in Upper Iowa Conference (UIC) play, with that lone UIC loss coming to Class 2A MFL/MarMac by just three points. That near-perfect mark in league play far surpassed Kee’s previous best single-season win total in UIC play of just nine games and earned the basketball Hawks their first-ever Upper Iowa Conference season championship in their 35 years of playing in that league, as well as Kee boys basketball’s first conference championship since the Hawks won the Upper Mississippi Conference crown in 1983.
