The Waukon girls golf team continues its recent trend of regrowing the program, as a squad that yielded just one golfer two seasons ago grew to four last spring, and now this season has doubled to eight young ladies reporting for early-season preparation. This season’s roster of eight golfers includes the return of all four of last season’s players that also includes the one golfer who made up the entire team during the 2022 season, with none of this season’s players yet a senior.

“Doubling the team size from last year was a nice surprise,” Waukon girls golf coach Kathy McMillan shared. “Half the team returns as letterwinners that have playing experience. I will have six varsity players and there will be allowance for scoring, as a team score is made up of four out of six scores.”

The half of this season’s squad returning with varsity letterwinning leadership consists of all juniors, with Alyssa Connelly headlining that group with the now two past seasons she has under her belt. Fellow juniors Faith Cooper, Halea Corwin and Eva Whalen will also bring back their playing experience from last spring.

Half of the four young ladies making up the rest of this season’s squad are also juniors, as Taylor Kiel and Reagan Lubahn are each taking to the course for the first time in high school competition. They are joined by a pair of freshmen who will complete this season’s roster, as Adelynn Connelly and Tori Zezulka will hit the links in their first year of high school eligibility.

The Lady Indians were scheduled to get this season’s schedule underway with a Tuesday, April 2 Northeast Iowa Conference meet on the road at Decorah before hosting their first home meet Monday, April 8 against Crestwood. The golf Tribe will then travel to Luana to take on MFL/MarMac and Postville Tuesday, April 9 before competing at Clayton Ridge Thursday, April 11.
