Michael Ryan Whalen and Emily Margaret Bohr were married June 4, 2016 at St. Francis De Sales in Ossian.

The bride is the daughter of Darryl and Irene Bohr of Ossian and is a graduate of South Winneshiek High School. She earned an Office Technology with Medical Emphasis Diploma from NICC and is employed as an optician with Shopko Optical in Mason City.

The groom is the son of Tom and Laurie Whalen of Dawsonville, GA and is a graduate of Dawson County High School in Dawsonville, GA. He earned  a Business Specialist AAS and Business Administration AS Degree from NICC.

The bride was given away by her father, Darryl Bohr. Erica Bohr was the Maid of Honor. Bridesmaids included the bride’s sisters, Elizabeth Elsbernd and Evelyn Bohr, and her cousin, Cassie Michel. The flower girl was Jolee Brummond.

Dan and Jane Sivesind and Chuck and Lois Votsmier, all of Waukon, are happy to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their children, Leeta Sivesind and Scott Votsmier. The wedding will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon June 11, 2016.

The bride-elect is a 2010 graduate of Waukon High School and a 2014 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. She is currently working towards a PharmD. degree at the University of Iowa and is also employed by Hartig Drug in Iowa City as a Pharmacy Intern. The groom-elect is a 2005 graduate of Waukon High School and a 2007 graduate of Kirkwood Community College. He currently works for Voss Distributing in North Liberty as a route salesman for RedBull.

Jack and Denise Hager celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary

Jack and Denise Hager of Waukon are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary May 30. Jack Hager and Denise White were united in marriage May 30, 1966 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Ames. In honor of the occasion, their children and families will be hosting a dinner party for them in June.

They are parents of four children, Mike (Trisha) Hager of Prairie du Chien, WI, Jon (Selena) Hager of Lorsdale, MN, and Drew (Sarah) Hager and Christy (Tom) O’Neill of Waukon. Thirteen grandchildren have blessed their lives: Ella and Ava Hager, Marissa, Mariah, MaKaylie, Macey and Mariana Hager, Kylee, Jaden and Noah Hager, and Hunter, Jack and Emma O’Neill. Gary and Karen Soper to celebrate 50th anniversary

Gary and Karen Soper of Harpers Ferry will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary June 11.  Gary Soper and Karen Anderson were married June 11, 1966 at West Paint Creek Synod Church, rural Waukon.

In honor of their anniversary, their children and families will be hosting an open house Saturday, June 11 from 2-5 p.m. at the Harpers Ferry Community Center.  They are the parents of Jared (Jill) Soper and Kari (Paul) Rea.  They have three grandsons, Brent, Ethan and Oliver.  They request no gifts, however cards may be sent to 322 N. 1st St., Harpers Ferry, IA. 52146.
