Art exhibit by Judith Engle at Robey Memorial Library

Waukon High School and Junior High School art teacher Judith Engle currently has an art exhibit on display at Robey Memorial Library in Waukon through the month of March. The exhibit consists of drawings she completed of Meskwaki and Ho-Chunk dancers while they performed at Effigy Mounds National Monument as part of a class requirement for summer classes held for teachers. In 2007, the Ho-Chunk Dancers & Drummers performed at Effigy Mounds, and last summer the Meskwaki Nation held a day-long festival at the national park. Engle's interest in drawing the people and dancers from exotic places in the world began on a photographic safari she took to Kenya and Tanzania. She continued that theme while living in Zaire, Africa, Guatemala and Peru. Engle has lived in Waukon since 2004.
