Becky Lomen of Waukon wins $250,000 prize in "Lucky Diamonds" scratch game

A Waukon woman said she was shocked when she headed to town for sweets for her mother-in-law and came home with a $250,000 prize!
Becky Lomen, 59, said she drove into town from her dairy farm west of Waukon to get a piece of pie for her mother-in-law, who had been sick lately. While she was out, she picked up two “Lucky Diamonds” instant-scratch tickets for herself, which she scratched in her car.
“I guess it was well worth the trip going to town last night!” Lomen said Friday, February 12 as she claimed her prize at the Iowa Lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids. She purchased her winning ticket at Huba Huba Convenience Store in Waukon.
Lomen, who is a dairy farmer with her husband, Jim, said she has enjoyed playing the "Lucky Diamonds" scratch ticket game in the past, but never expected to win a prize this big. “There usually aren’t too many big winners like that in Waukon that I know of. I was never expecting to win that big!” she said.
Lomen called her daughter and husband on her way back home to tell them about how shocked she was. She said her husband didn’t believe it either. “I’ve just been trying to take it all in. Is this for real?” she said. Lomen said she plans to use some of her winnings to pay bills.
Lucky Diamonds is a $10 scratch game. Players try to match any of “Your Numbers” to the “Winning Numbers” in the play area on each ticket. Players who find the “double diamond” symbol win double the prize shown. The overall odds of winning a prize in the game are 1 in 3.18.
