Chamber of Commerce seeking nominations for "Person of the Year"

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations from community residents for Waukon’s “Person of the Year” honor. This is the 13th year the Chamber will bestow the honor upon a Waukon resident fitting the award’s criteria.
That criteria includes exemplifying the spirit of Waukon through dedication and service to the community; making a difference in the community with active and enthusiastic volunteerism; being a leader - defined by actions, not title - by instilling their own community pride, high personal standards and values in others around them; and serving as a positive role model to this community’s future generations of leaders by demonstrating integrity, character and trustworthiness.
Past honorees for the award have included Ray and Ralph Sweeney, Daniel Regan, Charles Pettingill, Marvin “Bud” and Marge Strike, Revelyn Lonning, Dan Welsh, Joe Cunningham, Nona Sawyer, Mike Myers, John Leschensky, Irv and Patty Fosaaen, and just last year, Dennis Lyons.
Nomination forms for Waukon’s “Person of the Year” award can be picked up at the Waukon Chamber of Commerce office, located at 101 West Main Street. Those forms should be returned to the Chamber office by January 15, 2010.
Those nominating people for this award are reminded that it is the quality of the nomination that determines the award winner, not the quantity of letters in support of the nominee. The nominations and ensuing award are intended to be a surprise to the deserving individuals, so it is encouraged that they are not informed of their nomination.
The “Person of the Year” honor will be awarded at the Chamber’s annual meeting, which will be held February 26, 2010 at the Waukon Banquet Center.
