Kevin Gordon attains Eagle Scout rank

Kevin Gordon of Boy Scout Troop 64 in Waukon will be honored at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Sunday, November 15 at 2 p.m. at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. Gordon appeared before the Eagle Board of Review Committee September 21 and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank.
After being a Cub Scout and earning his Arrow of Light May 14, 2005, Gordon crossed over and joined Troop 64. He earned the ranks of Scout, Tenderfoot, 2nd Class Scout, 1st Class Scout, Star Scout, Life Scout, and completed his trail to Eagle Scout September 21.
Gordon is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle Rank. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow and has earned the Totin’ Chip, Firem’n Chit, and World Conservation Award. He has participated in many weekend camp outs, week-long summer camps, and camporees. He has also been involved in many service projects within the community, including Christmas tree pick-up, selling poppies, Corn Days clean-up, river clean-up, and donating to the WE CARE playground project. He has participated in omelet breakfasts, wreath sales and flag retirement ceremonies. He has held many offices within Troop 64, including Troop Guide, Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Den Chief, and is the current Senior Patrol Leader of the troop.
As an Eagle Scout project, Gordon performed a landscaping project at his church, Zion United Church of Christ. He would like to express his deep gratitude to the members of Zion who graciously funded the project and his fellow members of Troop 64 for helping with the project.
The son of David and Connie Gordon, he is a sophomore at Waukon High School, where he is involved in golf and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). He also participates in summer softball league. He is a member of Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon and active in the Youth Alive. In June of 2008 he participated in a trip to St. Louis, MO where he volunteered at a soup kitchen for the homeless, and in August of 2010 will participate in a mission trip to Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, MS with the Zion Youth Alive.
He is the grandson of Herbert (Jr.) and Mary Lou Halvorson and Ervin and Sharon Gordon and the great-grandson of Lorine Halvorson, all of Waukon.
