Marty Blocker earns Eagle Scout rank; Court of Honor to be held this Sunday

Marty Blocker of Boy Scout Troop 64 in Waukon will be honored at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor Sunday, November 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Blocker appeared before the Eagle Board of Review September 21 and was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Blocker is one of approximately four percent of all Boy Scouts nationally who attain the rank of Eagle Scout.
Blocker began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in first grade. He was actively involved in Cub Scouting until May 14, 2005 when he earned the Arrow of Light award and crossed over to Boy Scouts from Cub Scouts. In addition to the Arrow of Light, Blocker has awards for Red Flannel Camping, Totin’ Chip and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
Blocker has been involved in many service projects within the community, those include: Christmas tree pick-up, selling poppies, organizing a Scout float for the Memorial Day parade, delivering meals for the St. Patrick’s Day supper, Corn Days, and trail clean-up. He has participated in omelet breakfasts, wreath sales and flag retirement ceremonies along with weekend campouts and camporees. Blocker has also held numerous leadership positions within the troop, including  Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, Librarian, Bugler and is the current Troop Guide.  On his journey to Eagle Scout, he has earned 23 merit badges to date.
For his Eagle Scout project, Blocker planned, organized and assisted with the construction of a picnic shelter for the Ralph and Eileen Sweeney Park located in the Northgate Addition in Waukon. The shelter houses a picnic table and has been in use at the park since last fall.
Blocker is a sophomore at Waukon High School, where he participates in football, basketball, golf, and baseball and is involved in student government. He has also served as a volunteer flag football coach for Park and Recreation and enjoys officiating youth soccer, football and lifeguarding.
A member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Blocker is the son of Dave and Anne Blocker of Waukon, and the grandson of Leo and Rosemary Kriener of Fort Atkinson and the late Maurice and Jeanne Blocker of Waukon.
