Waukon Area Fire Protection District preparing for 119th Annual Ball

The Waukon Area Fire Protection District is asking Allamakee County residents to check their mail for the postcard pictured above which will contain details about the District's 119th Annual Ball Fundraiser scheduled for Wednesday, November 27. The mailer pictured above is being sent out to all Allamakee County residents in an effort to seek out donations in lieu of the firemen canvassing the area door-to-door to solicit ticket purchases/donations for the event, as in year's past. With the door-to-door solicitation taking the firefighters away from family and loved ones even more than their volunteer duties, training and meetings already do, and with it being more difficult to find people at home with today's busy lifestyles, the District opted to try this new approach of sending mailers, although members do consider meeting the people they serve as a highlight of the annual event.
The 119th Annual Ball is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27 at the Waukon Banquet Center from 8 p.m. until midnight, with door prizes being awarded at 10 p.m. to those in attendance. Music will be provided by "El Caminos" and donations will be taken at the door the evening of the event. Proceeds from the donations to the event will be used to fund truck equipment and personnel protective gear. The average cost to fit firefighters with protective gear is $3,526 to safely work in the conditions commonly experienced on a fire call. There are currently 35 active members in the Waukon Area Fire Protection District who devote a great deal of their own time to not only protect life and property in the area but who also educate young people about fire prevention, especially during this past week, National Fire Prevention Week. Those who can not attend the Annual Ball may mail a donation, payable to the Waukon Fire Department, to P.O. Box 429, Waukon, IA 52172. Submitted image.
