Waukon Area Fire Protection District receives donation for rope rescue equipment from Waukon Feed Ranch

Waukon Feed Ranch has donated funds in the amount of $3,690 to the Waukon Area Fire Protection District for the purchase of rope rescue equipment to assist in such events as grain bin rescues. The new equipment consists of ropes, harnesses, anchors, pulleys, swivels, etc. pictured in the photo accompanying this article.
“This equipment is extremely valuable, as the amount of grain bins has increased significantly throughout the city and rural areas that the Waukon firefighters serve,” Waukon Fire Chief Dave Martin commented. “We hope that we never have to use any of it, but if the need should arise we need to have this equipment available to provide safe rescues for everyone involved, both victims and firefighters.”
Chief Martin says the new rescue equipment will be made available to all fire departments within the county should the need arise, as he notes the importance of all the departments in the county working together when extra help is needed. He also explains that Waukon Feed Ranch has been a great asset to the Waukon Area Fire Protection District not only with this donation but also by allowing its employees who are volunteer members of the Waukon Fire Department to step away from their jobs and serve the Fire District at a moment’s notice.
“The employers are one of the most important things needed to keep the fire departments throughout the county fully staffed with adequate numbers, especially during the daytime hours when many work out of town,” Martin said.
