Applications to Allamakee County Flood & Storm Relief Fund due Sept. 1
Presidential disaster declaration covers only public infrastructure
The Presidential disaster declaration that was recently issued for Allamakee County is for the Public Assistance Program, which covers only city, county and state infrastructure to include streets, sewers, debris management and emergency protective measures. The declaration has also made available some mitigation funds for projects to lessen damage from future events.
Individual homeowner assistance was not approved by the federal government. The Iowa Individual assistance grant offered by the state to flood victims has expired.
Some assistance is available for individuals and businesses through Allamakee County Economic Development from the Allamakee County Flood Relief Fund. For more information on how to apply for assistance, call 563-568-2624. Rural residents and farmers may contact a local NRCS or FSA office for information regarding assistance.
For more information about the disaster declaration and assistance available to flood victims, contact the Allamakee County Emergency Management Office at 563-568-4233.

Allamakee County has established a Flood & Storm Relief Fund to assist area residents and business owners who had to replace water heaters and/or furnaces or other heating units as a result of flooding that took place during the weekend of June 22-23. The reimbursement program will allot a maximum amount of $500 per household or business, with receipts or other proof of purchase required to participate in the program.
Applications for the assistance are due by 12 noon September 1, with funds being disbursed by October 1 of this year. Applications can be picked up at any Allamakee County bank, the Allamakee County Visitor Center (located at 101 West Main Street in Waukon), or online at www.allamakeecounty.com under the "Economic Development" link.
Applications must be dropped off, mailed or faxed to:
Allamakee County Flood & Storm Relief Fund
c/o Waukon Economic Development Corporation (WEDC)
101 West Main Street
Waukon, IA 52172
Fax: 563-568-6990.
The program is designed to assist Allamakee County residents and businesses considered low to moderate income and which have not received any State relief assistance or insurance funds. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and provide a photo ID and either a 2012 tax return or bank statement/proof of social security income in addition to a completed application and receipts/proof of purchase. All applications will be ranked, and the fund committee will fund as many requests as possible. This is an initial distribution of funding, as it is hoped that future donations and/or funding will allow for continuation of the program, if necessary.
For additional information, contact the Allamakee County Economic Development Office at 563-568-2624 or 1-800-824-1424.
