The Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Waukon Center is holding a free open house Monday, April 22 to offer community members opportunities to learn more about academic programs and services offered through the college’s center, located at 1220 Third Avenue NW in Waukon. Waukon-area community members are encouraged to visit the center anytime between 4-7 p.m. April 22 to learn more about academic programs at NICC, how to apply for financial aid, continuing education coursework offered at the center and short-term certification programs that can enhance career marketability. “This open house has something for everyone - current students, prospective students, parents, business organizations and just interested community members. Services and offerings at NICC are vast, so this is simply an opportunity to learn more about a specific area or to come and learn about the variety of exciting things happening at NICC,” said Hollee McCormick, director of the Waukon Center. Those who attend will have the opportunity to learn about NICC adult literacy programs and how to earn a high school diploma equivalent credential, the General Educational Development (GED) degree, and the Project Lead the Way program, an Iowa initiative that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education for young students.
