Lenten Breakfast Thursday at St. John's; Jennifer Jones to be featured presenter at March 27 event

The Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast events are held each Thursday throughout the Lenten season at Waukon area churches. The events begin at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, followed at 7 a.m. with a program. All women in the area are invited to attend these events taking place during the Lenten season.

Waukon Lions Club Variety Show celebrating its 25th anniversary at April 5 event

The Waukon Lions Club will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Annual Variety Show this year, with this year's show scheduled to be held Saturday, April 5 at the Waukon High School Auditorium. Doors for the event open at 6 p.m., with performances beginning at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available at Farmers & Merchants Savings Bank, Waukon State Bank, Fidelity Bank, Hartig Drug, or from any Waukon Lions Club member.

"Keep Waukon Beautiful" Day has been set for May 24

The fifth annual “Keep Waukon Beautiful Day” has been scheduled for Saturday, May 24 in the Waukon area, and volunteers are being sought to help take part in the event in an effort to clean up and maintain the appearance of the community. Interested participants are asked to meet at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 24 at the front entrance of Waukon City Park.
Those participating are asked to bring with them garbage bags and work gloves. Raindate is scheduled for Saturday, May 31. Questions about the event can be answered by contacting Dr. Steve or Stefanie Perkins at 563-535-7019.

Seventh Annual Big Pumpkin Contest set for September 28; Registration deadline June 16

The Big Pumpkin Contest will be celebrating its seventh season this fall in conjunction with the TASC Fall Festival. The festival is scheduled to take place Sunday, September 28 at the TASC Skill Building Center, Waukon. Entry deadline for those wishing to participate in the contest has been set for June 16. There are seeds currently available for this year's contest, and the registration fee to enter a pumpkin in the contest also includes two meal tickets for the event. New categories and events are also being planned.

Recent changes at the Waukon Wellness Center

Waukon Wellness Center Director Dani Bucknell would like the community to be aware of some recent changes at the facility. The recreational equipment formerly located in the "Teen Center," including a Wii game console, foosball table and air hockey table, have been moved to the northeast corner of the facility (top photo).

The first Women’s Lenten Ecumenical Breakfast will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon Thursday, March 13. All women in the area are invited to attend these events taking place during the Lenten season.
The Lenten breakfast events will begin at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast, followed at 7 a.m. with a program. St. Patrick Parish will be hosting the March 13 Women's Lenten Breakfast, with Katie Fahey and Loretta Schafer giving a presentation on the book: "The Energy Bus."

March 14-17 sTEP enforcement will focus on watching speed and slowing down to save lives

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is reminding the motoring public that speed can be a driver's worst enemy not only during the cold weather months but throughout the year. Statistics show that far too often the driver who is hurrying to get to work, going to the grocery store or traveling to an out-of-town destination can’t react fast enough to a situation and a crash occurs. It can be one of the most deadly mistakes a driver can make.

Merlin and Becky Gesing to be part of medical mission trip to Ecuador

Merlin and Becky Gesing of Waukon will be part of a 20-person team of volunteers journeying to Ecuador in South America later this spring as part of a mission trip to offer medical, dental and other services to the people of Zumbahua, Ecuador.
