Area native operating Calico Clips on west edge of Waukon

Callie Courtney of Waukon opened her own pet grooming business, Calico Clips, in July of this year. In addition to pet grooming, Courtney sews pet clothing and is also a local dealer of Young Living Essential Oils for pets and humans.

Family Snowshoe event scheduled for December 28

The Allamakee County Conservation Board (ACCB) will be hosting a “Family Snowshoe” Saturday, December 28 at the Yellow River State Forest Headquarters, located at 729 State Forest Road, Harpers Ferry. The event will be free of charge and open to the public. Appropriate-sized snowshoes and trekking poles will be provided by the ACCB for everyone who attends. Participants should dress for the weather with appropriate layers including outerwear, winter hats, gloves and waterproof boots.

Waukon Chamber of Commerce seeking nominations for awards to be presented at annual meeting in February

The Waukon Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations from community residents for awards to be presented at its annual banquet in February. Nominations are being accepted for awards including Years of Service, New Business of the Year, Business of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Person of the Year honors.
The Chamber will bestow the honor upon more than one individual/group or local business fitting the following award’s criteria:

Waukon natives pair up at new Main Street location for Stranded Memories

Stranded Memories, first opened in November 2012 on Allamakee Street in Waukon, moved to its new location at 3 East Main Street in September of this year. Originally opened by Waukon native Donna Ellingson Fletcher, she was joined by fellow Waukon native Cindy Shogren in March of this year to combine Fletcher’s experience in jewelry and antiques with Shogren’s knowledge of glassware and linens.

Supervisors approve agreement to list Makee Manor for sale; notified of resignation of Jan Heikes

The Allamakee County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Monday, December 2 to address a relatively short agenda. The two main agenda items were in regard to ongoing items previously discussed by the Board, with action now being taken on each of those items.

Robey Memorial Library moving to temporary location during renovation phase of library project

Robey Memorial Library in Waukon will be closed Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7 to move library services to a temporary location in the basement of the library's new addition. The entrance to that new temporary location can be accessed off Fourth Street NW. This move will allow patrons to use library services (collection, public access computers, wireless internet connection, etc.) while construction crews renovate the current library building.
