Supervisors approve pair of permits related to Driftless Visitor Center

by Bob Beach

During a brief regular meeting Monday, July 6, the Allamakee County Board of Supervisors approved two permits related to the construction of the Driftless Visitor Center to be located on the Columbus property south of Lansing, one for underground water and sanitary sewer pipes and one for concrete paving, sidewalks and other above-ground utilities within the County’s Secondary Roads right-of-way. Allamakee County Conservation Director Jim Janett said that fundraising for the project is ongoing and that architectural and engineering plans will need to be approved by the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration before moving forward. He said that once the plans have been approved, bids would be taken and the County Conservation Board and the Board of Supervisors would likely wish to meet jointly to consider the bids.
In other business, the Board accepted and placed on file the Auditor’s quarterly report and passed a resolution approving appropriations for fiscal year 2016.
