Run-off election taking place December 1 to decide winner of Waukon City Council At-Large vacancy

Voters in Waukon will be asked to return to the polls Tuesday, December 1 to determine which of two candidates will fill an At-Large vacancy on the Waukon City Council. All registered voters within the city of Waukon are eligible to vote in the run-off election, but the only polling site open that December 1 election day will be at the Waukon NICC Center, Room 109, located at 1220 Third Avenue NW, and that site will be open from 12 noon to 8 p.m.
The two candidates on Tuesday's run-off election ballot, Christine Enyart and Ben Rausch, were on the original November 3 City Election ballot, along with fellow candidate Jean Brink, in an effort to fill a vacancy on the Waukon City Council created by the resignation of At-Large representative Darrold Brink in late August of this year. However, the City of Waukon has an ordinance provision requiring that candidates in such an election receive more than 50% of the vote total to be elected or a run-off election must be held between the two candidates receiving the most votes.
Enyart had actually been appointed to that vacant At-Large seat by the remaining members of the Waukon City Council following Brink's resignation until the next available election, with Rausch and Brink also vying for that appointment. In that November 3 City Election, Rausch topped that three-candidate field with 209 votes, but that total only accounted for just under 46% of the overall vote total in that race. Enyart finished with 157 votes and Brink tallied 92 votes.
In addition to the December 1 polling location at the NICC Waukon Center, absentee voting can also be done in person at the Allamakee County Auditor's office in the Allamakee County Courthouse in Waukon up until 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 1. The Auditor's office is open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the exception of this Thursday and Friday, November 26-27 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
