Iowa Governor Terry Branstad signed a proclamation April 26 of this year encouraging all Iowans to join in the historical Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon to take place in front of all 100 courthouses within the state of Iowa, beginning Thursday, June 30 at 8 a.m. and ending Sunday, July 3 at approximately 4 p.m., the day prior to the July 4 celebration of this nation's 240th birthday.

On the local level, Kristi Hager and Mary Keatley are organizing the event for Allamakee County, inviting families, groups or individuals to volunteer to read in 15-minute increments at any time during the around-the-clock, four-day event that will be taking place at the northeast corner of the Allamakee County Courthouse property along Allamakee Street in Waukon. Volunteer readers do not need to bring or prepare anything, as a Bible, a podium and a canopy tent will be provided.

"We will unite in honoring God’s Holy Word and celebrating our First Amendment freedoms," the local organizers shared. "We will unify the body of Christ around the Holy Bible. We will re-establish the reading of the Word in every home so that we may hear His Word, know His Word, and be doers of His Word. Let His Word be read and the transformation and awakening begin in Iowa, the state that carries the heartbeat for this nation."

Volunteers are also needed to serve as team captains who will provide any needed assistance throughout the course of the reading event. A map listing who will be serving as team captain in a particular county is scheduled to be posted online at www.kingdombuilderenterprises.com under the "Iowa 99 County Bible Reading Marathon" link under the "Campaigns" header on that website home page. "We wish to make this a countywide effort bringing together all Christians and interested persons of any age within Allamakee County," local organizers said.

Anyone interested in participating in this event may sign up to read by simply going online to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/4090D4AABAC23A6FD0-allamakee to select a 15-minute time slot between Thursday, June 30  and Sunday, July 3. In addition to having an adult read for a designated time, organizers offer the following suggestions for those wishing to read or take part in the event:
• Readers can share their time by allowing walk-ups to read a few scriptures.
• Youth or adult groups take 15-minute slots and have several read.
• Parents read a few words to their young children and let the children repeat them back.
• Husbands and wives read together alternating scriptures or splitting the time.
