Lillian Stockton

Lillian A. Stockton, 98, of Anamosa, formerly of Waukon, went home to her Lord and Savior July 17, 2016 at Pinicon Place in Anamosa surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with Pastor Don Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call one hour before services Thursday at the funeral home.

Lillian Arlene Powell Stockton was born January 28, 1918 in Allamakee County, the youngest child of Ainsworth and Nettie (Rist) Powell. She married Otis Stockton July 7, 1945. Together they farmed for many years and enjoyed 57 years of marriage. While farming, Lillian also taught school and went back to get her college degree from Upper Iowa University in 1970, at the age of 52. She taught all ages over 45 years of teaching, from a one-room school to English Literature at the college level. Lillian was a great homemaker, kept an abundant garden, and enjoyed sewing, quilting and crafts. Music was her passion having played drums, saxophone, and especially piano for church services and her family’s enjoyment.

Survivors include her children: Gloria (Dave) Froines of Gilroy, CA, Richard (Darla) Stockton of Anamosa and Daniel (Deborah) Stockton of Maryville, TN; five granddaughters; one grandson; 14-1/2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otis, who died in 2002; a grandson, Mark Froines; two sisters, Lessie Falb and Thelma Cowell; and four brothers: William, Louis, Clyde and Harvey Powell.

Honorary casketbearers are Owen Myhre and Don Zimmerman. Casketbearers are Nathan Pullen, Stephen Stockton, Lawrence Powell, George Arduser, Dale See and Ron O'Dell.
