Vocal music honors for high school, middle school pair


Vivian Khan, a seventh grade student at Waukon Middle School and the daughter of Gary and Peggy Khan of Waukon, was selected for participation in the 31st annual Opus Honor Choir Festival. Selections were made by means of a recorded audition, and singers were judged on musicianship, tone quality, intonation and rhythm. Over 3,000 students from around Iowa auditioned for this honor. The 2016 Opus Honor Choir performed November 17 in C.Y. Stephens Auditorium in the Iowa State Center in Ames, conducted by Sarah Bouska of Mason City High School. Waukon High School senior Matt Hoins, son of Greg and Kris Hoins of Waterville, was selected to participate in the Iowa All-State Music Festival, the highest individual honor attainable to Iowa high school musicians. Thousands of students from across the state of Iowa auditioned for All-State Chorus Saturday, October 22, and Hoins was selected for the 601-member All-State Chorus.
