Waukon boys track team places third at Decorah Early Bird, second at Postville
All three of the victories ... The senior pair accounted for all three of the Indian event victories at the meet, Day winning both the 1600 meter run, in 5:05.96, and the 3200 meter run, in a clocking of 10:55.45 that just edged out O’Neill’s second-place 10:55.78. Top-five sprint finishes ... The Waukon boys track team finally saw its first outdoor competition of the season, being able to get both of its scheduled meets in this past week, despite a one-day delay of one of those. That Tuesday, April 4 Decorah Early Bird Meet was postponed from Monday, April 3 but saw the Indians finish third in the final five-team standings before a more short-handed track Tribe worked its way to a second-place team finish out of 11 nearly all Upper Iowa Conference squads at the Postville Invitational Thursday, April 6.
The Indians were next scheduled to return to Decorah on back-to-back Monday evenings, including April 10 and April 17, with a co-ed invitational at New Hampton scheduled in between, Thursday, April 13. The track Tribe is then scheduled to host five other teams at its own Indian Relays Friday, April 21, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Decorah Early Bird ...
The Indian track boys were finally able to get their first outdoor meet of the season in when they traveled to Decorah Tuesday, April 4 after having the meeting postponed from the previous night. Facing a relatively small field of just four other teams, the Indians were led by a trio each of event wins and runner-up finishes to tally 41 team points and finish third.
Postville Invitational ...
The Waukon track boys were a bit short-handed late last week, as several competitors were involved in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Leadership Conference when the track Tribe competed at the Postville Invitational Thursday, April 6. Despite that limited line-up, the Indians were still able to post a trio of event victories and four runner-up finishes to tally 87.4 team points and finish second in the meet’s final 11-team standings.
