George was born in La Crosse, WI October 8, 1945 to George “Buster” and Katherine (Wagner) Lee. He was a 1964 graduate of St. George High School in Lansing. He worked at Lansing Company right out of high school, where he met his future wife.

George Lee and Carmen Ames were united in marriage September 7, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in Waukon. Two children were born to this union, Andrea and Aaron.

His next employment was as an agent for Iowa Oil Company until they closed. He went on to be head mechanic at the Lansing bus barn and enjoyed driving school bus up to his retirement in 2017.

George grew up along the Mississippi and was a lifelong river rat. He loved everything outdoors, especially bow hunting and gun hunting. He enjoyed tending his tomatoes and taking evening drives in the country. Among his favorite things to do was to talk to anyone and everyone that he ran into; be it at an auction or out to eat, he was always chatting with someone.

But truly he was a friend of everybody.
