Doris Van Fleet

Doris Arlene Hanson Van Fleet of Lakewood, CO passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at the age of 94. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at Glory of God Lutheran Church, located at 12200 West 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO.

The daughter of the late John and Emma Hanson of Waukon, Doris was born in Harpers Ferry. She graduated from Waterville High School in 1941 and obtained her bachelor’s degree at Iowa State University. She then continued her education and received a degree from the University of Michigan as a registered dietitian.

Doris worked as a dietitian at St. Mary-Corwin Hospital in Pueblo, CO before transferring in 1949 to Rose Medical Center in Denver, CO. There she became head dietitian and retired after 34 years.

Doris loved painting, gardening, meeting people and cooking. Everyone loved to eat and be entertained at Doris and Gene’s. Her biggest passion was traveling the world, visiting over 75 countries. Doris had a smile that could take your breath away.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Eugene; her daughters, Candace Gail Spaid and Marci Lynn Girin; her sons-in-law, Gary and Christophe; and her grandchildren, Mike and Karen Spaid and Alexia and André Girin.

Memorial contributions may be made to Old East Paint Creek Lutheran Church, where Doris and Gene were wed, or to Glory of God Lutheran Church.
