Dorothy, or Dottie as most knew her, was born July 23, 1931 in Marshalltown to the late Robert A. and Velda Fox Rockhill. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1949. Dottie later graduated from Iowa State University in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics Education.

While in college, she met David Henry Kruse and they married December 19, 1953. Dottie taught in several small Iowa towns from 1953 until 1985. She was a lifetime member of AAUW (American Association of University Women), was a singer with Sweet Adeline Great River Chorus for a number of years, and enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, cooking and collecting roosters, chickens and eggs in her spare time.

After moving to Copperas Cove, TX, Dottie joined Altrusa, DKG (Delta Kappa Gamma), a couple of card stamping groups, and was often seen at CCTRA (Copperas Cove Retired Teachers Association) meetings. Dottie was active in her churches in New Albin and Copperas Cove, TX. Even though she wasn’t a member, she found a home at Grace Methodist’s Angel Care and knitting group.

Dottie was preceded in death by her daughter, Karla Joy Kruse, in 1976 and her husband, David Kruse, in 2006. Dottie is survived by her daughter, B.J. (Don) Taylor; a sister, Romaine (Donald) Mackaman; and many nieces and nephews.
