Daniel Klees

Daniel J. Klees, 64, of Marion, formerly of Waukon, died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at this home. A visitation will be held Wednesday, March 7 from 4-7 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon. Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Daniel Joel Klees was born December 6, 1953 in Waukon to Paul and Coral (Moose) Klees. He graduated from Waukon High School. After graduating, he worked at the local factory and on area farms. Later, he joined the Waukon Police Department and also drove school bus for many years. During that time, he married Laura Gallagher and had four children. The couple divorced and he moved to Lawler, where he ended his law enforcement career as Police Chief. He moved to Marion and continued working for Croell Redi-Mix and later ADM.

His laugh, smile and big personality will always be remembered. He had many stories that you just had to hear! He was stubborn, loving, emotional, loud and friendly to everyone he met. He was always handy and didn't hesitate to help with any task, big or small. He loved hard, almost to a fault. He loved his children, but his life was in his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy and happiness.

Daniel is survived by his children and their families: Ken (Lisa) Klees and Evelyn of Springville, Dana (Matthew) Schuerman and Nicholle and AnnaBelle of Danvers, IL, Theresa (Aaron) Helmrich and Gable, Zadie and Gracin of Coggon and Audrey (Adam) Gottschalk and Landon and Elliana of Dubuque; and his siblings, Linda Lou, Kermit, Janet, Janice, Nancy and Susan, and their families. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Coral; and several siblings, Dixie, Sandra and infant brother Samuel.

Honorary casketbearers are Don and Scott Cope, Darrell Holub, Marvin Krotz and Chris Maas. Online condolences may be left at www.martinfunerals.com.
