ACSD Board offers Superintendent position to area native Jay Mathis

The Allamakee Community School District (ACSD) Board of Directors has made a verbal offer of the district's Superintendent position to area native Jay Mathis following a recommendation offered to the board by the district's Superintendent Search Committee at a Monday evening, March 5 special session of the board. Mathis has reportedly verbally accepted the position, but his official hiring is still pending a background check and formal board approval.

Mathis is a 1982 graduate of Waukon High School whose most recent education administration experience has included a six-year tenure as Superintendent of the Eldora-New Providence Community School District in Hardin County. Through an extensive search process, a field of 18 initial candidates for the position was narrowed down to two finalists, Mathis and current South Winneshiek Community School District Superintendent Kris Einck. A panel of various district and community stakeholders conducted a day-long final interview process of the two finalists Monday before making the recommendation to the ACSD Board of Directors to hire Mathis at Monday night's special session.
