Donations and volunteers sought for Waukon High School Post Prom 2018

Waukon High School Prom/Post Prom set for April 21-22 ... Pictured above is a previous Waukon High School Post Prom. Donations and volunteers are being sought to help make the annual event a success again for Waukon High School students and their Prom guests. Submitted photo.

Waukon High School Prom 2018 is scheduled for Saturday, April 21. Parents of high school students are again hosting the annual substance-free Post Prom event at the Waukon High School gymnasium immediately following Prom, from 11 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. the next morning.

Very strong past support from parents of Waukon High School students, as well as from local businesses and civic organizations, has resulted in the continued success of providing Prom-goers a safe alternative for celebrating the annual event. That support has provided these young adults with games, food, entertainment and prizes at the Post Prom event each year.

Assistance is needed for the event in two main areas:

Financial Support is always a top priority as expenses for the Post Prom event have exceeded $10,000 in the past, with the popular hypnotist being the largest expense, but also proving to have increased attendance in past years. This year the committee will also be incorporating some of the incentives such as prizes and a photo booth during the dance to entice students to attend and stay.

The prizes for over 300 students in attendance are also a main expense. Most donations to the Post Prom event come in monetary form, which are then used to purchase these prizes from local businesses. Every student attending Post Prom for the entirety comes away with a prize or gift card.

Workforce Support is also sought as there are a number of committees that can use volunteer assistance to help make Post Prom the best it can possibly be. There is the initial set-up taking place Friday, April 20, the working of the games, food, prizes and supervision the evening/morning of the event, and the clean-up to follow Sunday, April 22.

Monetary donations can be sent to the following address:

Waukon Project Prom
P.O. Box 148
Waukon, IA 52172.
