Aloysius "Lloyd" Welsh

Aloysius (Lloyd) Andrew Welsh, age 84, of Lansing passed away April 14, 2018 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, April 17 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lansing with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant. Burial followed at Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.

Lloyd was born August 20, 1933 to Patrick and Mary (Zoll) Welsh. He attended French Creek #5 school through the eighth grade and attended St. Paul’s Prep Seminary in Epworth his freshman and sophomore years. Lloyd graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Waukon in 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 at Fort Lewis in Washington.

September 6, 1960, Lloyd was united in marriage with Betty Voss at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monona by Father William Menster. Lloyd farmed in the Lycurgus area for five years and then opened the Village Farm & Home store in Lansing in 1965. His commitment to his customers and his community was something he took great pride in. He didn’t think twice when a customer called after-hours needing an urgent item and would drop whatever he was doing to get them what they needed.

Through the years, he was a member of the Lansing Lions Club, City Council, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and Jaycees. Lloyd was also a volunteer for the Lansing Fire Department and Police Auxiliary.

Lloyd enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his family. In addition to raising 14 children, Lloyd and Betty hosted four exchange students. He was well known for his sense of humor and antics. He enjoyed meeting new people and especially enjoyed striking up conversations with people he didn’t know. He loved “hearing their story” and often commented to his family about things he found they had in common. He continuously exhibited the importance of treating people with respect and compassion.
