Roger Hager

Roger F. Hager, age 76, of Dillsburg, PA passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Milton Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA surrounded by his loving family following post-surgical complications. A visitation was held Wednesday, April 25 at the Cocklin Funeral Home in Dillsburg, PA.

Roger was born February 5, 1942 in Waukon, the son of the late Robert and F. Marian (Raisty) Hager. Roger was a 1964 graduate of Iowa State University, later receiving a second degree from the University of Wisconsin to hold degrees in Agronomy and Business. In 1971, Roger moved to Pennsylvania. He was a long-time employee of the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service, retiring as a contract specialist in 2003. Roger also served on the board of the Dillsburg Area Public Library.

Roger was a legendary personality who had a deep appreciation for the people and things he loved and was a phenomenal influence on his children, grandchildren and all who knew him. He was a voracious reader and student of history, with a special passion for World War II events. He was legitimately one of the good guys. We could not have asked for a better husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend, and he most enjoyed time with family, particularly with his grandchildren. He will be missed.

Roger is survived by his wife, Linda C. (Obyle) Hager; as well as his daughter, Sarah (Leon) Hager Crone of Mechanicsburg, PA; a step-daughter, Laura (Peter) Martino of Clinton, NY; a step-son, Peter (Beth Ann D’Agostino) Dohner of Dillsburg, PA; six grandchildren, Angela, Connor, Forrest, Ava, Logan and Vinnie; his brother, Paul Hager of Montpelier, VT; and his sister, Jean Hager of Cedar Falls.

The family would like to thank the team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center for giving them four additional years to enjoy his love and companionship, and for their kindness and compassion during the past week.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Dillsburg Area Public Library, 204 Mumper Lane, Dillsburg, PA 17019 or the Lutheran Camping Corp., P.O. Box 459, Arendtsville, PA 17303. An online guestbook can be signed at www.cocklinfuneralhome.com.
