Julie Twombly Peters

Julie Marie Schoulte Twombly Peters, 91, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Waukon, died Friday, June 22, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Her passing was very peaceful. There are no services planned at this time.

Julie was born September 24, 1926 to Katherine (Riley) and Casper Schoulte. She was raised on the Schoulte family farm near McGregor. She attended Immaculate Conception Academy (ICA) in Dubuque and graduated from Monona High School, Monona. She received her RN designation from Mercy School of Nursing, Marion in 1947. Many years later, Julie went on to the University of Dubuque, where she earned her BSN.

July 31, 1950 Julie married Robert (Bob) J. Twombly. Julie put her nursing experience to work for more than 40 years. During Bob’s time in the Army, she was able to move the family as his service demanded, eventually being promoted to the Nurse Manager of the ER (Emergency Room) for Womack Army Hospital at Fort Bragg, NC.

Julie was a nurse to her core, passionate about her career and keeping up with research and medical advances. When she managed the Waukon Living Center, she was at the forefront of assisted living care in Iowa and enjoyed using her education to be of service to those in need.

Julie is survived by her brother, Francis Schoulte of Monona; her three children, Debby Samuelson of Cedar Rapids, Janel Clarke of Waukon and Scott Twombly of Kingston, IL; her grandchildren, Boyd Samuelson, Yvette Lubbers and Morgan Clarke; and her great-grandchildren, Travis, Jeffrey, Natasha and Annie.
