Local participants can register online for this year’s nine events, including Mutton Bustin’ for youth

The 2018 Allamakee County Fair coming up this week will feature a brand new rodeo performance in the grandstand Saturday evening, July 21, beginning at 6 p.m. with a youth Mutton Bustin’ event. Rogue Rodeo is a full-scale rodeo show that features a variety of nine different event favorites.

Based in the south central Iowa community of Albia in Monroe County, Rogue Rodeo is the heart-and-soul effort of Jerry Beaumont and Stephanie Allgood. Both have been involved with rodeo a majority of their lives, and the rodeo they first brought to their hometown in 2016 was voted Best New Rodeo that year by the Iowa Rodeo Cowboys Association (IRCA).

Their rodeo show consists of nine different events that include many rodeo favorites. Those events include Bareback Riding, Calf Roping, Over 40 Calf Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Girls Barrel Racing and Bull Riding, along with Mutton Bustin’ for the youth to participate in.

Along with regular rodeo circuit competitors, adults can register to compete in the first eight events listed above by visiting the IRCA website, www.iowarodeocowboysassociation.com. The Mutton Bustin’ event is for local youth to participate in and is limited to a 65-pound weight maximum. Registration information for that event can be found in the shaded box accompanying this article located to the right below.

This year’s rodeo event will also feature the laughs and entertainment of professional barrelman/rodeo clown Mike “The Spike” Wallace. Along with protecting bullriders and others in the ring during the rodeo performance, Wallace also offers his own family-friendly bit of entertainment to keep the crowd laughing and engaged between events and performers.

More information about Rogue Rodeo can be found on the rodeo’s website, www.roguerodeo.com. Further registration, event and contact details can also be found at that website address.
