Harry and Janet Hite

Harry M. and Janet Anne Hite of Falls Church, VA passed away within nearly two months of one another at Sunrise Care Facility in Falls Church, VA. Harry passed away May 5, 2018 at the age of 92 and Janet passed away July 13, 2018 at the age of 85. Graveside services for Harry were held May 15 and Janet’s graveside services were held July 20, both in King David Memorial Gardens at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA with Fr. David A. Whitestone, Pastor of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax, VA officiating.

Harry Hite was born in December of 1926 in Front Royal, VA to Thomas and Edith Hite. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Law. He was a governmental lawyer who worked at the Pentagon, the U.S. Department of Defense, the FBI and 20 years at the U.S. State Department.

Janet Troendle was born April 18, 1933 in Waukon to Silas and Loretta (McLaughlin) Troendle. She graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Waukon in 1951 and worked as a secretary in the Pentagon before being a stay-at-home mom until her children were out of school and then working in a dress shop. Harry and Janet were married July 19, 1952. They lived in Washington, D.C., Battle Creek, MI and Vienna, VA and both were members of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Falls Church, VA.

Both Harry and Janet loved working with flowers and gardening. Harry was a self-taught painter and Janet was active in all activities at her church. She also loved to sew, cook and bake for her family. In April of this year, Harry fell and broke his hip, and two weeks later, Janet fell and broke both hips.

Both are survived by their children: Paul Hite of Oakton, VA, Diane Hite of Reston, VA and Kevin (Penny) Hite of Edmond, OK. Janet is also survived by her sisters, Patricia Sorenson of Dunweg, MO and Joyce Regan of Waukon; her sister-in-law, Coreen Troendle, who was married to Kenneth; and many nieces and nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and several brothers and sisters. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, George, Kenneth and John Troendle; and her sisters, Joan Robey and Mary Troendle.
