Margie Walker

Margie Jane Walker, 75, passed away July 20, 2018 in St. Augustine, FL after a long battle with chronic illness. She passed peacefully surrounded by her daughters and grandchildren. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waukon. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon.

Margie was born in Waukon to Ralph and Irene Steele. She lived most of her life in Des Moines, where she raised her two daughters and worked for Principal Financial. She moved to St. Augustine, FL five years ago to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.

Margie was a member of the Red Hat Society and Beta Sigma Phi, Palm Coast Chapter. She was a world traveler, always looking forward to a new adventure. She was constantly on the look-out for a garage sale. She enjoyed arts and crafts and watching HGTV and the Food Network. Margie was an avid reader, loved kitchen gadgets, fancy hats, teapots and enjoyed cooking and baking with her grandchildren, who were the lights of her life. She had a fondness for (stale) movie theater popcorn with lots of butter and salt.

Margie is survived by her mother, Irene Steele of Waukon; her daughters, Keri (Kellie) Walker of Bunnell, FL and Stephanie (Rob) Crabb of St. Augustine, FL; her grandchildren, Michael, Madison, Summer, Hayden and Harper; her sisters, Vicki (Mark) Vick of Decorah and Lori (Dan) Treangen of Waukon; her brothers, Ralph (Pat) Steele of Onalaska, WI, Ronnie (Kay) Steele of Wadena, Ricky (Sheila) Steele of Waukon and Randy (Teresa) Steele of Roanoke, IN; and many nieces and nephews. Margie was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Steele; her brother, Robert Steele and her sister, Ann Kuchenbecker.
